Meet True School students who have made the art of performing music their way of life.

Ankur Shahi

Ankur Shahi is an Indian who grew up listening to a lot of Bollywood music. As a teenager, he was introduced to Rock/metal music, which also got him into playing the Guitar. Later in his musical journey, he developed an interest in Indian Classical and RocknRoll music. His musical style is heavily influenced by rock, heavy metal, Indian classical, ballad, blues, world music, and fusion, as well as by the great guitar legends like Paul Gilbert from MR.BIG, Racer X, John Petrucci from Dream Theatre, bands like Iron maiden, Metallica, Slash from Guns and Roses, Sitarist Anoushka Shankar, Prassana and Indian rock bands like Mother Jane, Agnee and Parikrama. Studying music at The True School of Music has helped him develop as a musician. He also has been a part of a few bands in college and participated in a college rock band competitions. He likes to write lyrics and writes all his own music. Apart from this, he has also contributed to writing songs for his band. Most recently, he completed an MA in Music Business from London College of Music which comes under the University of West London.

Delraaz Bunshaw

Delraaz Bunshah is a 22 year old Mumbai based singer- songwriter. Her genres include mainly rock , pop and jazz. She has studied Western Vocals at the True School of Music. She has been in musicals such as - Gandhi (The Musical) , The Sound of Music, Sing India Sing, Disney’s Aladdin and Lullaby Stranger. She has performed tribute shows such as ‘ABBA’ and ‘A Night on Broadway’. She has been a part of a Hotstar Webseries called Aarya, where she has acted as well as sung on some of the music tracks. She has also been a part of ‘The Stage’ (season 3), on Colors Infinity. She has sung jingles and voice overs for various brands including- Westside , Godrej, Amul, Disney’s Aladdin and Frozen 2 (Hindi), Toy Story 4 ( Hindi), Universal Studio’s Trolls 2 (Hindi) to name a few Delraaz has performed across a variety of venues and festivals across India.

Aaliyah Qureishi

Aaliyah Qureishi (aka Jhallih) is an indie singer/ songwriter with a heartfelt voice and captivating stage presence. She is a trained vocalist in Western classical, blues, rock, musical theatre and jazz. She has performed alongside her a cappella group, the Sirens, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and with her indie rock band at iconic locations such as the Whiskey-a-Gogo. She is currently studying the Pro Western Vocals course at True School

Karun Kannampilly

Karun Kannampilly, is an experienced drummer and music educator and has been a prominent contributor to Mumbai's indie music scene for over 12 years. As a performer, he is currently a part of The Koniac Net, plays with artists such as Raghav Meattle, Kamakshi Khanna, Bhrigu Sahni and freelances for multiple other projects. Previously he has played for bands like Modern Mafia, Rang and Last Remaining Light and has also played sessions for Lesle Lewis.

Karun began his teaching career at the Mumbai based True School of Music, where he held several positions across a 4-year tenure eventually stepping down as Pro Drum Faculty to set up his own teaching practice. In 2017 he founded Drum House, an educational enterprise that provides unique residential-format drum camps and drum classes. Their last camp, conducted at a Villa near Pawna lake was attended by 30 participating student drummers from all across India and taught by The Drum House team (Karun + Dhir Mody) along with acclaimed drummers Jai Row Kavi and Darshan Doshi.

Shraddha Sehgal

A home maker, a mother, head of her textile design team and a musician all along, Shraddha Sehgal took up the Hindustani Vocals programme under the tutelage of Shankar Mahadevan Academy at the True School of Music, Mumbai. While studying, she composed melodies and started writing lyrics for her original songs and for her school mates.

In a short span and by word of mouth, Shraddha has worked with several musicians as a lyricist. Her experiences are the medium through which her thoughts translate to lyrics for the many different genres she writes for. The challenge of writing to situations and to the exact meter of a melody excites her and that she can add meaning to a song with her words, motivates her to write lyrics that people connect with. Noteably, she has written lyrics for songs of a web series written by Vikram Bhatt called Spotlight 2, and a song titled Chaka Chak to support Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan sung by Shankar Mahadevan.

Shayaan Oshidar

Shayaan Oshidar is a Hinglish singer-songwriter and actress currently based in Mumbai and London. After studying at True School, she went on to pursue her degree in music from Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) in 2017. During her final year there, she was one of 7 students to be chosen to write with Sir Paul McCartney. In 2018 Shayaan & her writing partner Ryan using the entity HICARI, began writing songs for other artists and to date have crossed over 30 million streams worldwide on Spotify alone. They have collaborated with an amazing array of writers and producers who are regulars for artists like ‘Dua Lipa’, ‘Zara Larson’, ‘Yungen’, Zak Abel, The Vamps, etc.

Since 2019 Shayaan has had a top 20 hit on the Billboard dance/EDM chart with ‘More than a stranger’ which was also remixed by the popular DJ duo ‘Tritonal’. Another track for Norway based artist DJ Anton reached no. 22 on Norway’s Nrkp3 Radio, the equivalent of UK’s Radio 1. BBC Radio 1 also had ‘So What’ a record she wrote with Jay Pryor on their show with Scott Mills. She has also had releases with Nicky Romero, Ayokay, Jake Miller, W&W, and Jay Pryor. These have been released on Virgin EMI, Sony Music Global, Universal Music and many independent labels around the globe. Popular Playlists and YouTube channels such as ‘Mint’ on Spotify, Apple Music's A List Dance playlist, Proximity, Wave Music & Dancing Astronaut have also featured tracks Shayaan has written and sung on.

Shayaan is now in India working on her current Hinglish Pop project. Her cover of ‘Talk’ was featured on UK’s ‘Love Island’ which then got onto the Shazam top 100 Charts at No. 9 followed by the top 100 itunes UK Charts.

Agneya Chikte

Agneya Chikte is a Toronto based drummer/percussionist who has been performing professionally for 7 years. Known for his stylistic versatility, after studying at True School, he moved to Toronto to pursue his Bachelor’s in Music at the prestigious Humber College – School of Creative and Performing Arts, and has been steadily rising through the ranks in the music scene. He has studied with some of Canada’s best-known musicians and educators, namely Mike Downes, Pat LaBarbera, Mark Kelso, Rich Brown, Kirk MacDonald and Larnell Lewis. In his time at Humber, Agneya has had the honour of receiving multiple Awards and Scholarships, including the Canada-wide ‘Musicounts Scholarship’ (2018). Agneya performs on drum set and percussion alike, covering a broad range of styles reflecting his wide interest in a variety of music and his natural feel for groove and texture regardless of genre.

He has performed across Ontario at stages and venues like the TD Toronto Jazz festival, Orangeville Jazz Festival, Beaches Music Festival, the Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, Burdock Music Hall, Canadian National Exhibition and the Yonge & Dundas Square. In June 2018, Agneya was selected to be a part of Toronto Jazz Festival’s inaugural ‘Jazz Musician Intensive’ which was the festival’s own showcase ensemble, consisting of the most upcoming musicians from each from the 4 post-secondary music programs in the GTA, under the direction of Juno Award-winning composer and bassist, Mike Downes. Additionally, the ‘Agneya Chikte Trio’ was declared the 2018 winner for Niagara Jazz Festival’s ‘Jazz for the Ages’ competition.

Gaurav Gerera

Specialising in Bollywood-Pop with a spark of Indie music and classical vocals, Gaurav is an independant singer-songwriter and music producer. Being a band leader and lead vocalist of a classical fusion Raagmetal band and an acoustic band, he is proficient in composing and arranging songs across genres. Gaurav is an experienced performer in the contemporary and semi classical space since 2016 and has been awarded for several such events. He has been performing all over Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Lonavla, Mahabaleshwar, Matheran and other places as a solo, duo and trio act.

He is currently working on his own album as an independant artist and plans to release his original music this year. Out of all the things that he has learned as a musician, Gaurav gives most of the credit to The True School of Music in his development towards a professional artist.

- Recorded a podcast at Maed in India with "The Humma Girl" Shashaa Tirupathi.
- Performed at 6 different interviews with Shasha (Red FM, Mirchi, MTV).
- Performed for ZEE5 Independance day event, broadcasted live all over india.
- Recorded backing vocals for Shilpa rao's cover of 'Ghungroo' and 'Shabhashiyan'.
- Invited as a guest to perform at the 130th prestigious sindhi festival. Performed at Alexander resort, Matheran for a corporate event.
- Performed at Royal Rasoi Club on Valentine's day. Recorded Backing vocals for a short film "Ab meri baari hai" by Karan Johar Productions

Urmila Sivadas

Being from a South Indian family, music came early into Urmila's life as she started learning Carnatic music at the age of 7. Her foray into Western music began in the form of Blues, Rock & Roll, and Grunge. This eclectic combination of musical styles developed her early taste and she eventually journeyed into the realms of Jazz, RnB, Soul, and Electronica.

Urmila is a former student of The True School Of Music and the vocalist of the upcoming electronic RnB/Soul project 'Mr. Maloouk & the Goombas'. She is currently devoting her time to writing music with this new project and will be releasing an E.P with them soon. They released their first two singles as a band last year which was very well received. Mr.Maloouk featured in the 'Midday' newspaper after they released their second single, 'Caterpillar' and on the UK based blog soulandjazzandfunk.com

In 2018 at The International Song Writers Camp 2018 held at The Conservatorium Haarlem in The Netherlands, Urmila had the opportunity to represent India and The True School of Music. It's a matter of immense pride that her team stood first for their song, amongst students from 18 different natoinalities and across reputed music schools from all over the world. Her participation not only helped with her songwriting but also gave her an opportunity to gain international industry experience. When she isn’t writing music with her band, Urmila works as a sessions vocalist and plays RnB/Jazz gigs in and around the city. She has worked on jingles for Jabong (Diwali Sale), Estee Lauder Campaign, and an anthem for Creative Land, Asia with Mickey Mcleary.

Aditya Sharma

Aditya sharma is an aspiring singer-songwritter originally from Indore. Now based in Mumbai, he is published by Erosnow. He proactively collaborates with big Youtubers and is also working on his original music which will be releasing very soon. Currently studying the Pro Hindustani Playback Vocals Course at True School, he has led a band for a charity concert at Tata Memorial Hospital, has given vocals for 2 films, and has worked with several composers on their original tracks.
Aditya has also performed at many concerts in and around Mumbai. He recenty worked as a vocal producer on the recreation of the famous song "Oh Oh Jaane Jana". This rendition has garnered 15 million views on the Youtube channel 'Singh's Unplugged'. His main aim is to become a successfull playback singer and perform his original music, the goal of which is to bring back the 2000s Bollywood feel.

Swanand Thakur

A Guitarist/Performer/Producer based in Mumbai, switching between being a Jingle producer to a full fledged performer, Swanand has been performing live for 3 years with various projects, and exclusively with the Corner Café Chronicle (CCC). They have toured all over India and won MOOD INDIGO 2019. After playing at festivals like Cherry Blossom Festival, Strawberry Fields, Control ALT Delete, etc. they are now set to release their debut album this year. They’ve also been featured in a Podcast “MAED IN INDIA”.
As a versatile guitarist and producer, Swanand prefers working with different personalities, to experience vicariously and to expand his musical horizon. To get a sneak peek into his upcoming album with CCC, here’s a link to one of their singles ‘Gloria’s Kitchen’

Priyansh Chaturvedi

Priyansh Chaturvedi A.K.A. FAT KRRENT is an independent artist from Ajmer, Rajasthan. His main forte is in the field of Hip-Hop/Rap & Beatboxing. Apart from these skills, he also works as a music producer/sound engineer. He has launched several singles and videos independently on platforms like YouTube, Soundcloud, CD Baby & ReverbNation. He launched his debut alnum in 2017 titled "Intervenin In", and is a member of the former Indian hip-hop/rap crew "The Rap Hoppers". He has performed at various local and large events and college festivals like Mood Indigo, Sandscape, Oneiroes, JU Rhythm, Vivacity, Palm Expo, Blue Lagoon Cultural Collective etc. Currently he is pursuing the Pro Sound Engineering at True School.

Bharat Chandore

Bharat originally hails from a small town called Barwani in Madhya Pradesh. He moved to Mumbai just to make a career in music. He is the founding member of popular folk fusion band Aankh Micholi. Apart from this, he often plays with Indus Creed, Kimochi Youkai, Clayton Hogermee, Chirag Katti (Sitar Rhapsody), Merlin D'Souza, Sharvi Yadav & Symphony Novel.

Maanuni Desai

Maanuni is a singer-songwriter. Her main influences come from pop, hiphop, R&B, Jazz and Funk. She has worked with Hitesh Modak, Sujoy Dey and Esani Dey on the Background Scores of Bollywood Movies like YRF's Qaidi Band, Kangana Ranaut starrer Simran, PM Narendra Modi and Yeh Saali Aashiqui. She was also a part of MTV Color's of Youth Season 6 and got mentored by Benny Dayal. She has lent her voice for the Character 'Chanda' in MTV's Nishedh. Maanuni has played at venues like Blue Frog, Hard Rock Café, MTV Flypp, Veranda, The Stables, Above the Habitat to name a few. She opened for Farhan Akhtar Live at Mithibai College's Kshitij Festival in 2017.

Ramya Pothuri

Ramya Pothuri is a young singer-songwriter who student the Pro Hindustani Playback Vocals course at True School. After living and performing in St. Louis, MO, USA for 10 years, she moved to Hyderabad, India, at the age of 16, where she became an avid performer in the city's hotel and restaurant circuit, including a 6 month stint at the Trident Hotel. A seasoned singer and finger-style guitarist, with an expansive repertoire, she is currently based in Mumbai. Since moving here, she began writing and performing her own material and has since performed at venues and festivals such as the NCPA, Blue Frog, Cafe Zoe, Todi Mill Social, New Wave Asia, Contol Alt Delete 10, as well as The Lil Flea, and the Little Gig Escape in Murud. She released her first independent EP of original music, titled "We Never Left" and promoted it through her venture "The Living Room Tour", a series of house gigs around Mumbai organised by herself and Ronit Sarkar.

Jarvis Pereira

Jarvis Pereira aka Doctor J, is an ENT Surgeon by day, and successful performing vocalist by night. Having studied both Guitar and Western Vocals at True School, Jarvis is well versed with both Western and Indian Music, and was the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the Rock band '2 Way Switch' He was also part of a Hindustani band called Goonj in Bangalore. Jarvis founded, trained and performed with an Acapella group all over Bangalore. He also sang Tenor with internationally renowned Gospel musician Don Moen during his India tour in October 2010. Apart from this, Jarvis sang playback for a Kannada film Money Honey Shani. He is currently the lead guitarist for the acclaimed pop/retro/rock roll band Victor and the Crowns, and The Backup Plan and performs as a solo artist and in association with a beatboxer and percussionist in various pubs all over Mumbai, including The Stables, The Bandra Projekt, The Little Easy, The Quarter, The Habitat (formerly Tuning Fork), Hard Rock Cafe, The Clearing House, The White Owl, Theory, The Boston Butt, Reise, Patch of Sky, Junkyard Cafe to name a few.

Adil Kurwa

He has been an active member of the Indian independent music scene as a Bass player and composer for The Colour Compound, The Koniac Net, Tejas and Taba Chake. In addition to his own music, he has also played as a sessions musician on advertisements, film scores and soundtracks as well as on Coke Studio with the band Orange Street. After completing his course at The True School he was a member of the Pro Faculty as a Bass Instructor and Band Ensemble coach. He also freelances as a Bass player for bands like Indus Creed, Alluri, Clinton Cerejo, Nikhil D'souza and Manasi Scott.

Mustafa Rk

Mustafa was the part of the first batch of the Pro Hindustani Playback Vocal course at True School. He started by performing at college festivals and small private gigs. At present, he is exclusively managed by Happydemic for live as well as sessions work. Mustafa has performed alongside many Bollywood playback singers like Armaan Malik, Kavita Seth, Harshit Saxena, Shalmali Kholgade, Divya Kumar and a number of the participants of Indian Idol. He has worked as a sessions vocalist for several corporate jingles. He is currently co-composing for a Netflix horror movie and was exclusively featured in an independent song "Main Sach Bolda" by well know singer Shaan. This video has garnered more than 7 million views.

Gomathi Iyer

Gomathi Iyer is an aspiring singer/performer from Hyderabad, currently based in Mumbai. She is formerly trained in Carnatic classical music and is currently pursuing Hindustani Classical music. He has completed the Hindustani Playback Vocals course at True School. Gomathi has delivered numerous classical performances in Hyderabad and has been performing at various prestigious venues in and around Mumbai. She has performed with Dharavi Rocks for the CRY foundation's 40th anniversary and has collaborated with an Indie band Tapas for their song 'Udaan'.

Aashran Mahajan

Aashran Mahajan is a singer-songwriter and performing artist from Jammu and Kashmir. He student the Pro Hindustani Playback Vocals course at True School. A the age of 17, he released his first single, 'Mehermah' and continues to derive inspiration from Hindi and Urdu poetry, Sharayi and Ghazals. His songs imbibe relatable emotions disguised as lyrics. Having performed various shows in Jammu, Mumbai and Delhi, both as a singer-songwriter and composer, he is working towards releasing more original compositions and enriching his audience. He has also done backing vocals for The Raghu Dixit Project, and Aankh Micholi, and is currently working on his EP 'Nalaayak'.

Brecilla Dsouza

Brecilla D'Souza is a singer-songwriter who trained under Jazz Vocalist, Samantha Edwards. She studied Western Vocals at True School while simultaneously completing the Rock School Examinations. In 2016, she formed a band called My Kind Of Blue with fellow True School students. In 2018, she independently managed a three month long promotional tour with My Kind Of Blue for the release of their original album Colours, touring cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Shillong, Gangtok, Guwahati, Chennai, Goa, Bangalore and Kathmandu. In 2019, she formed a vocal trio with Ananya Sharma and Damini Gautam called Queendom and performed at the Palm Expo in Mumbai and live on VH1 during World Music Day. She is currently teaching vocals at The True School of Music.

Jayakrishnan Unnithan

JK is a keyboardist, music composer and educator based in Mumbai. Originally from Kerala, he was drawn strongly towards Carnatic violin and western classical piano during his early adolescence. JK has performed with the likes of legendary and renowned artists such as Ranjit Barot, Gino Banks, Kailash Kher, Ayushmann Khurrana, Shan, Lisha Mishra, and Jonita Gandhi to name a few. Apart from playing live shows, he also composes for jingles for ads and produces music for other independent artists.

Dhir Mody

Dhir Mody wears many hats. He studied Pro Drums at True School. Apart from being one of the youngest Zildjian endorsed artists in the city, he has had the privilege of performing along with eminent musicians like Suman Sridhar, Kailash Kher and Clinton Cerejo. He also works as an Artist Relations and Brand Manager for Zildjian, India. When not performing or consulting, he is often doing sessions in the studio and teaching drums. Dhir is currently working on Drum House, a project he initiated with fellow drummer and True School alumni Karun Kanampilly, that focuses on doing outdoor drum camps at secluded laocations. He is currently playing with Sandunes , Ape echoes , Ron Cha and his own project along with Bass partner Nathan Thomas.

Ambika Nayak

Ambika has studied the Pro Western Vocals course at True School. Her two acts “Kimochi Youkai” and “Nothing Anonymous” (Along with Nirmit shah, also True School Alumni) have played across multiple venues in India. “Kimochi Youkai” has performed at various venues like The Quarter, Royal Opera House, Veranda, High Street Phoenix and The Little Door. Their first festival gig was at Nariyal Paani, and they have also performed at the Nh7 Weekender in Pune. “Nothing Anonymous” has performed at the Nh7 Weekender in Pune, Echoes of Earth festival, Sula Fest, and has also opened for the international act Bonobo at Vh1Supersonic, Bangalore. Apart from performing live, Ambika is also a recording artist and has work ranging from commercial ad films to Web series.

Hansel Dias

Hansel Dias is an incredibly versatile bass player. He has played with a variety of bands across genres in the Indian music scene and continues to do so, ranging from Jazz, Rock and Blues to Folk, World, Indian Classical Fusion and even with an orchestra! He studied bass at The True School Of Music in Mumbai and was awarded the 'Student Of The Year' award for the year 2014-15 for his exemplary academic performance. Hansel excels at music theory and loves to compose and perform live. He has been performing for the past 7 years as a professional sessions player and is constantly sought after by a lot of musicians in the industry. Hansel is currently a member of the bands Aankh Micholi (Hindi folk fusion alternative) and The Rapid (Alt-Rock). Apart from that, he has played with Bollywood producers such as Shaan, Clinton Cerejo, fusion stalwarts Taufiq Qureshi, Purbhayan Chatterjee, Chirag Katti and songwriters such as Sooraj, Peaking Panda, The Osho Projekt, etc. He is currently endorsed by Nordstrand Audio and Harman Professional (For Aankh Micholi). His aim in life is to keep creating music, and to inspire a generation of musicians whose parents have wrongly taught them that "Music is just a hobby."
