Andrew Shillito began playing the classical guitar at the tender age of 9. He holds a Bachelors degree in Jazz Guitar from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2011) and a Masters of Music in Jazz Guitar from the Manhattan School of Music (2014). While at MSM, Andrew played in the Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz Philharmonic, and the Brazilian Combo while also teaching the MSM Sunday Program, the MSM Outreach Program, and at the Roanoke Jazz Institute. Andrew has also worked as a personal assistant to Garry Dial, the Head of the MSM Jazz Improvisation program. During his undergraduate education, Andrew wrote large ensemble arrangements for the UNCG big bands including “She’s as Wild as Springtime,” by Lee Konitz, “ Little Green Men” and “Simple as That,” by Peter Bernstein, and “Ferris Wheel” by John Ellis. These pieces were premiered with their composers as featured soloists at UNCG.
