At a very early age, he was initiated into Classical Music by his late father Ustaad Alauddin Khan Saheb who was a fine Ghazal Singer and Tabla Player. A little later, he began receiving formal Classical Music training under his maternal grandfather Ustaad Munir Khan Saheb, the great Sarangi Player-Classical Vocalist and a beacon of the “Indore Gharana” and under Ustaad Bashir Khan Saheb of “Delhi Agra Gharana”. Ustaad Munir Khan was, in turn, a disciple of the legendary Ustaad Amir Khan Saheb – one of the greatest Classical Vocalists ever.
Coming from such a distinguished background, Javed Khan went on to acquire Graduation, Post Graduation and M.Phil Degrees in Classical Music (all from Delhi University), topping the results at each level, and winning a Gold Medal at the Master’s stage. Javed Khan has to his credit over a hundred performances including those on Television (in the ‘Indian Idol’ show where he was one of the finalists). He is versatile and performs as per the full range of his group’s repertoire.
He started off learning keyboards when he was 9. When he was 17 he started learning Western Classical Piano after he got inspired by his visit to Trinity College London. He learned under a teacher for some time and then started learning the instrument by himself. Later on after high school while doing his Bachelors in Computer Application he started listening to a lot of Jazz, Blues, Soul, R&B and Electronic Music and started exploring and learning Jazz by himself. After finishing his bachelor's degree in Computer Application he went on to pursue his all-time passion for music as a career which he wanted to. He also has been a Piano Teacher with Furtados School of Music for 2 years and has taught over 900 students from a lot of schools in Mumbai. He also performs with his own band 'CuttleFish' which plays a neo-soul and experimental music and currently working on their original material. He teaches Keys & Arrangement for Producers.
Born in Calcutta, India in 1991, Sounak started playing the guitar at the age of 15-16. While he was studying classical guitar, he also got inspired by contemporary rock guitar playing and started teaching himself the electric guitar with the help of YouTube/whatever source was available.
He wanted to take up music as a profession and realized the importance of music theory very early and decided to join London Centre of Creative Media in London to pursue a Bachelor degree in Music Performance. Moved to London at the age of 19 (2011) to pursue music education and acquired Bachelors of Music (Hons) in Performance under Middlesex University with an overall 2.1 score During his years in London, he studied performance/composition/arranging/production under great teachers such as Blake Wilner, Ed Speight, Tommy Emmerton, Simon Wallace, Dave O’ Higgins, Geoff Gascoyne and lots more. He also performed with various artists across multiple well-known venues, which include O2 Academy, Proud Camden, Cargo, Charlie Wright’s, Floripa, Rhythm Factory, Surya London, and various others. This gave him a lot of experience in playing in multiple situations across various genres, which includes jazz, jazz fusion, blues, rock, R&B, neo-soul, soul, funk, etc.) Since his graduation, he has worked with Furtados School of Music as a Senior Guitar Teacher and Lead Teacher (June 2015 – June 2017) and has been conducting workshops for students and performing in India with various artists. Now he is working at True School of Music as a guitar teacher and course developer (July 2017 – present).
