The ART OF SAMPLING
Music Works Advanced Clinic
The Art of Sampling
By Jelle Visser, faculty for Music Production at the True School of Music
Born in the 70s, the concept of sampling was pioneered by DJs who began to experiment with the manipulation of vinyl on two turntables. Hip-hop music emerged as the first genre whose sound incorporated these techniques, and completely changed the scope of popular music. In today’s day and age, there are few genres not influenced by sampling. This master class by Jelle Visser, faculty for Music Production at TSM, will test your creativity by challenging you to create entirely new songs, using just a few samples from an existing song.
