Anushka Lewis is a contemporary harpist trained at the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai. Born and raised in Kuwait, she moved to Abu-Dhabi for a bit and then decided to head to India for her education where she moved from Bangalore to Chennai and now is currently based in Mumbai.
Anushka initially worked at the P.G.Garodia Conservatoire in Ghatkopar for ten months before she moved to Furtados School of Music. She worked with FSM for two and a half years (2011-June 2014). Anushka joined FSM as a Piano/Elementary music teacher. In the course of time she took up a position as Creative and Teacher Training Executive. She was also a part of two intensive teacher training programs. One was organized by Max Mueller Bhavan in association with the University of Music, Wurzberg, where she worked on techniques for group teaching. And the other was a ten day residency program in New York by The Academy – a program of Carnegie Hall, The Julliard School and Weill Institute of Music, where we focused on advocating for the arts. Anushka just completed a summer performance program at The Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA.
Her music influenced by the different cities she has lived in and the people she has met . Her sound is dominated by a feeling of darkness and surrealism which gives the harp a slight turn from what it traditionally is.
She has done collaborations with Mumbai based singer/songwriter/musician, Sidd Coutto, Beatboxing duo Boxy Turvy, The Whirling Kalapas and the storytellers Kommune. She is now focusing on bringing out an EP and looking to collaborate with more artists of various genres.
